Customer Rating: Summary: Decent Little MP3 Player on the Cheap. Comment: This thing isn't what I'd call a "high-end" device, but considering that only a few years ago a 256MB flash-based MP3 player was hundreds of dollars, this is a nice example of how technological advancements can make things more affordable. For anywhere from ten to twenty-five bucks, you get a 1GB MP3/WMA player. No frills. No screen. No special features. It's just an MP3/WMA player, but it does its job well enough.
On my Mac, this was simple-to-use. No drivers needed. Plug it in to the USB port, and then do the drag-n-drop thing. It can't play iTunes Store music, but if you REALLY want an iTunes Purchase to get on this thing, you need only burn an audio CD of the iTunes Purchases and then rip them as MP3 files from the CD. It's a work-around, but again, this is an el-cheapo player, and for the money you don't get MP4/AAC or the ability to understand DRM protected files. If you need that, check out the iPod Shuffle.
Like the Shuffle, this is designed clip-on to things-- Clothes, mostly. This makes this MP3 player ideal for someone who wants an easy-to-carry, who-cares-if-it-gets-stolen alternative to an iPod. I do happen to have an iPod touch, but I use this thing when I'm on the bus or in a place where I'm not feeling too secure whipping out my hundreds-of-dollars worth of gadget goodness from Apple. This does the job, and I don't care if it breaks, gets dropped, or someone swipes it.
That's not to say it's low quality... It's surprisingly decent for a cheap MP3 player. Sound quality is good, battery life is acceptable (make sure you charge for at least four hours before using it the first time, though, so the battery is properly conditioned!) and it feels solid enough for basic use.
My version of the MP-C582 seems to be a bit different from others. Mine has the 3.5mm headphone jack built-in, and doesn't require an adapter. The mini-USB 2 adapter included is a single solid piece, rather than a cable. Otherwise, it seems to be the same device. I can't speak to how the 2.5mm headphone jack might affect this MP3 player's value, but if you can manage to get the 3.5mm version, it's a decent value.
Seriously-- I've spent more on iPod CASES then I have on this MP3 player. It's well worth the cash, even if you're an iPod/Zune/Zen owner, because it's always nice to have a piece of kit that you can mistreat, toss in a bag, stash in your pocket, and drop without freaking out.
`Makes a good gift, too!
Customer Rating: Summary: Do not purchase Comment: Pros: Holds 1GB
Inexpensive
Cons: No way to tell if it's fully charged
No way to tell when battery is low
Play time is less than two hours at best
Always starts at beginning of playlist whenever you turn it on
Overall: Seems more appropriate to sell at a dollar store
Customer Rating: Summary: Terrible product! Comment: I bought this mp3 player because I wanted the clip function and I didn't want to spend the money for the Ipod. However, this thing worked 2x and never again! Would definitely not recommend this product to anyone. I also emailed Coby to find out if there was anyway to fix it, but I never got an answer and their website was useless. Very disappointed customer!
Customer Rating: Summary: Shoddy hardware Comment: I purchased this item since its form factor was similar to my iPod shuffle and I wanted to a device that would use wma files - which this did. So far so good.
I added files using Windows Media Player and that worked well enough.
But when it came time to run with this unit, I was bitterly disappointed. The clip was not strong enoug to secure the player to the waist band on my shorts so I was forced to clip it to the collar of my shirt. It stayed there pretty well. But once I started to sweat and the MP3 player got a little wet, it died completely.
I liked the idea of a player that would work with Windows Media Player. And as far as that goes, this device worked just fine. But for someone who wants to wear this while exercising - not the best way to go.
Customer Rating: Summary: Nice little MP3 player! Comment: I just received my player today. Easy to install and setup. Windows Media Player 11 had no trouble seeing it. Drag and drop playlist or albums right to it and it only took about 6 minutes to transfer three albums. My only con is the player charges with a USB hook-up but there is no indication if it is fully charged or not. The little red light stays on while charging but never shuts off after three or four hours. I guess when it dies it needs to be recharged.
