Customer Rating: Summary: Don't get duped!!! Comment: I purchased this product based on a number of positive reviews I had read. I was looking for an alarm clock that I could use my ipod with and one in which I could dim the backlight. However, after about 7 months, the product was just dead. I thought my power had gone out--but no, everything else but this product was working. I went back to the manufacturer's website and found out that the warranty is only good for 90 days!!! I tried contacting customer service, but got no response. I find it all rather interesting, as if they know they make a product that is defective and takes about six months to break down. Again, skip the frustration and find a different product! I purchased the Luna back in July and planed to give it to my wife for Christmas. Well, Christmas came and I finally gave her this nice gift. Unfortunately, the unit turns on but doesn't play any music from any ipod or any radio station. I called Xtreme Mac for help and they said they'd call me back. No call back. I called them again and finally got a hold of somebody. He said that the Luna only has a 90-day warranty and since the warranty was up he couldn't do anything for me. Technically, he's right, but as far as taking care of a customer he's wrong. Customer Rating: Summary: great concept, incompatible with latest iPods (iPod Classic), mediocre radio Comment: Based on the good reviews I purchased a Luna clock radio with my new 160GB iPod Classic. My first impressions were good. The Luna is nicely designed, with a large bright clock display, and very easy-to-use menu system for setting the alarms, and controlling the iPod.
Unfortunately, even with the latest 2.12U Luna firmware, and the latest iPod Classic firmware, the Luna is unable to wake the iPod Classic from deep sleep (overnight) to play the alarm. (It had no problem with my older 5G 60GB iPod.) A call and an email to XtremeMac tech support were unable to resolve the issue, only noting that my problem had been forwarded to their technical team.
In the end, I returned the Luna, and took a gamble on the brand new Sony ICF-C1iP iPod clock radio. What a difference! The Sony works perfectly with my iPod Classic, and even includes instructions for using it with the iPhone. Sound from the Sony is much better quality than the Luna, with full bass and even midtones. And the radio reception is no comparison - even with the 2.12U firmware, the Luna's radio is pretty poor.
As a nice touch, Sony includes a remote that completely controls the iPod menus as if you were using the click wheel. And, the Sony unit sits behind and supports the iPod with an adjustable rest, which in my opinion is a much better design. And, the Sony is $20 cheaper. Customer Rating: Summary: Wrong Version Comment: I just ordered 4 of the Luna ipod clock radios. Each one had the firmware version 2.02. The order was placed on September 29, 2007. I immediately notified Amazon that I was furious and have scheduled UPS to come pick them back up. Called Amazon and asked if they could send version 2.12U. They replied, "Sorry can't help you."
If you want this product, don't buy from these guys. Customer Rating: Summary: much better than iHome Comment: I bought the iHome unit and returned it within 2 days. That machine seems like it was created without any regard to someone actually setting alarms late at night, or wanting to gradually wake up to music. There is nothing gradual about the wake function.
The Luna, however, is a dream. This was designed with sleepers in mind. The dimmer gets VERY dim, the controls are intuitive and simple, the entire unit is customizable to fit your needs. And the gradual wake is just that. It gently raises the volume of your ipod so your first moment of the day isn't a shock to the system.
This machine is fantastic, and I actually can't believe that it has no true competition.
