Customer Rating: Summary: Archos DVR Travel Adapter Comment: A total must if you wish to use your Archos in conjuction with your Archos camera
Customer Rating: Summary: DVR Travel Adapter Comment: This is a great product for traveling and basically supports the connection of various vendors when connecting portable devices to the archos, on the downside, its a little expensive and you would need more cables to connect certain devices.
Customer Rating: Summary: Archos DVR Travel Adaptor Comment: Having purchased the above I was slightly disappointed with what it said on the box (and with yet again with more wires to my collection). After trying several different digital cameras (Sanyo C5 and Sony cybershot) this devise will work with the cybershot and not the Sanyo C5. I yet to see how it will work with my other camers and VCR - I think it will with the appropriate wires, and various connections and a bit of patience. I was looking for something to put my old analogue videos onto my computer and I think this may just be the thing (first put the videos on my archos and then load them on my computer) instead of buying another device for that purpose. As with most things one has to make several attempts before one finds the appropriate device that works for them.
Customer Rating: Summary: Works great!!!! Comment: I purchased the travel adapter to use with a previously purchased bullet camera (it's a little better than the Archos helmet cam).
The adapter attaches pretty securely to the bottom of the Archos with a hook that latches into it.
The left side of the adapter has a 3.5mm audio video input and comes with the appropriate cable for connecting to the adapter. The supplied cable has a 3.5mm A/V jack on one end and 3 rca's (left/right audio and the third is video)on the other end. Next to the 3.5mm A/V input is some other type of connector for A/V input that none of the Archos manuals have any details about. I personally have never seen this other type of A/V connector. None the less, the adapter comes with the appropriate cable to connect to just about any device.
The right side of the adapter has a DC jack for a charger which, sadly, does not come with this particular adapter. The DC charging transformer that comes with the Archos docking adapter works just fine with the DVR adapter.
I bought the Archos docking adapter in addition to the dvr adapter, because of the usb A input. I can connect my usb SD card reader to the usb A input of the Docking adapter and use my Archos 404 as a 30 gig photobank.
Today I did some testing for using the Archos 404 and the DVR adapter as a helmet cam video recorder. I taped the helmet cam to the step board on my truck and did some recording while driving around town. The video quality is pretty good and 8 minutes of video only used up 104MB of memory.
All-in-all, I am impressed. It is just what I thought it would be.
Customer Rating: Summary: Better than the DVR Unit almost twice its price Comment: I bought the DVR station before i bought the DVR Travel Adapter, and let me tell you, if you actually plan on taking your archos with you to play movies somewhere, or record stuff while your on the road, this unit is far superior over the DVR Station. The only downside to the DVR travel Adapter is that they don't actually give you a plug with it, which to me seems really strange, or actually more of their way of making you get the DVR station, which actually does come with a plug. In all reality though if you actually can find a plug that works from somewhere else, you'll do just fine. The quality of the video on my 604 comes out great using it, and i can create a timer to record with teh archos. If you ask me archos is one of the finest, and most intuitive players made, the only problem being that their marketing ploy of trying to make you get two to five additional things to make it do one thing you want it to do is very sneaky. If they just included some of these things from the get-go, and stopped using europe as an excuse for why they sell their units the way they do, they could be as big if not bigger than even the best seller out there. I understand optioning up, but really, an electric plug costs the manufacturer no more than 2 or three bucks. They could just add it into the price. I am just glad I went with the 604 as they included so many things on it that their later counterparts didn't get. I always say read up before you buy, and this product line is no exception.
