Customer Rating: Summary: MS Office 2007 is a productivity black hole Comment: If you have never used MS Office before then ignore this review, because you are unlikely to be bothered by the issues raised here.
As an advanced Excel user for nearly twenty years, I have to say that Microsoft has rolled out the software equivalent of new Coke.
Many professionals learned spreadsheets back in the 1980s when Lotus 123 enabled tremendous advances for ordinary business users. One of the great strengths of Microsoft Excel, when it became ready for Prime Time, was its ease of use for legacy 123 users. At that time, 123 was THE spreadsheet program for business and Excel was a newcomer trying to take market share.
The latest version of Office is like a punch in the stomach for experienced users who have invested thousands of hours over many years mastering Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other software staples. I have not noticed the problem with Word so much... how hard can one make typing, after all? But new Excel is a productivity disaster.
Does the Microsoft brain trust honestly believe that users hunt around with their mouse to execute spreadsheet commands? The "ribbon" seems well-suited for that purpose and little else. Any keystroke commands or muscle memory that you may have developed over the past two decades... forget about them. Need to put together a last-minute graph? Order out because you are not going to finish before dinner. Whoever made the decision to NOT provide legacy keystroke support should have their head examined.
I sincerely hope we can look forward to a service pack release to bring back "Office Classic." Office 2007 may include features that, some day, I will come to appreciate. But unless and until I find a need for them, I am downgrading.
Customer Rating: Summary: LEARN this software before using and writing bad reviews Comment: I can't believe the scathing reviews Office 2007 has gotten! Obviously, the reviewers haven't taken ANY courses in Office 2007, or even know how to use the HELP button! I was also an advanced user of previous Microsoft Office (Suite) software. I admit, I wasn't crazy about 2007 at first, especially since we had it dumped on us at work with no help to its use whatsoever. So I took the bull by the horns and so far had taken the Word and Excel courses and whoa - what an improvement from previous versions! The "live" update to fonts, theme changes, etc is really a time saver! The shortcut menus are wonderful - when you know they exist (by taking a COURSE). You can also save your documents to previous versions of Microsoft so you can send as email attachments or open/use the file somewhere else that has a prvious version. There's so much more by just a click of the mouse than there used to be. Please don't think this is a "bad" item because previous reviewers didn't know how to use it!!
Customer Rating: Summary: Good Update Comment: Very Good Product so far. Works well with Windows Vista and a dual core processing system operating environment. I have not had any problem with Vista crashing while running any of the Office 2007 application. I replaced Office 2003, which did not work well with Vista.
Customer Rating: Summary: the office ribbon is absolutely horrible Comment: what kind of a company rewards loyal users by putting up a roadblock to productivity? this is the worst software 'upgrade' i have ever seen, and I've been using software for the past 20 years. yes, there are additional useful features. yes, there are fixes to previous limitations. but no, they did not have to be implemented with a completely new UI. The office ribbon is like GM taking the steering wheel and putting it on the other side of the car, and calling that a better car, though indeed, the new car has a better engine. WTF? why would anyone approve this without at least having an option, add-in, or whatever work around to go back to the classic menus? unfortunately this is a business school case worthy example of how not to treat your customers.
Customer Rating: Summary: Where is it? Comment: It is very hard to review this product, as I have yet to receive it. My account was debited almost two months ago. I have attempted to contact the seller three times, with no response. I am going to have to give this a very bad review!
