Comment: Acme Thunderer whistles set the standard by which all other whistles are compared. They are quality made in Birmingham, England. Police, coaches and referees use these famous whistles all over the world.

Acme also makes a more inexpensive plastic model #660. Black Acme Thunderer Whistle It is small, portable and easy to blow. It is tested and guaranteed to reliably produce a loud high pitch shrill. The internal ball is actually call a "pea". It is made from cork so that it is waterproof.
Acme also makes other larger lower pitch models.
Acme supplied the mates whistles in 1912 for the legendary ship Titanic used during its distress calls.

Summary: Small Acme Thunderer: Nothing Like It!
Comment: I used this whistle while serving as drum major for a college marching band. In a loud stadium with over 90,000 fans, this whistle can still be easily heard across the field or throughout the stands because of its high frequency.
A lot of referees prefer this whistle as well because of its quick response and loud sound. The small Acme Thunderer is much more responsive than its larger counterpart.
Highly recommended!
