Editorial Reviews:

The Rogue Starter Acoustic Guitar is an amazing deal for a small-bodied guitar. The smaller profile is very playable for kids, has nice tone, and can be yours for chump change. It has a maple neck and rosewood fretboard and comes set up with Martin strings....

Summary: Great kids guitar
Comment: They say that you get what you pay for... well sometimes with kids you pay more than you wanted for something that is only interesting for a week. This guitar is great for parents who have a kid screaming for a guitar - but with short attention spans... I bought this for my 10 year old, and I have to say, it's a beautiful color. We swapped the strings out right away for some higher quality and had a bit of difficulty tunning it... but that may because of the fact that they wouldn't hush so that the tuner would give us an accurate reading.

The sound is about what you would expect from a beginner guitar, picks have a twangy metallic sound so you might want to push fingerstyle rather than picking. But for the price, if you aren't sure your kid will still want it 2 months from now... you can't beat it. (I also bought the blue one for my youngest son... they are still fighting over who ended up with the prettier guitar)

Summary: Exceeds expectations
Comment: The quality of this guitar is much better than I expected. It's a beautiful looking instrument; the pictures don't do it justice. To my novice ears, it has a nice, mellow tone. Everyone who has seen it has said the same thing: "Oh, wow!"

I bought this as a beginner guitar for my 13-year-old grandniece, and the size is just right: big enough to look and sound like a "real" guitar, but small enough to be comfortable. I would recommend the size for an older child or small adult.

I'm very pleased with this purchase. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this as a beginner guitar, and it's a bargain at the price. I've seen guitars costing much more that weren't as nice.

Comment: Bottom line is that this is a great guitar for the price. The strap knob is plastic and rather chincy and the fretboard does not have those dot thingies but the overall instrument is really nice and sounds good.

Summary: Great for beginners
Comment: I bought this guitar for my daughter who is a beginning guitar player. It is just the right size for her small stature. The sound is really great also.

Summary: Good Enough
Comment: I bought one of these to have as a "loaner" guitar for students, etc. I had grave reservations buying a guitar priced so low (I paid about $30), but this one was very playable, the intonation was good, and the tuners worked (all things likely to be lacking at this price). I have since bought four more for students. One has questionable action. I do not know if I will be able to get it setup correctly, but it is already out the door. All the others play well. These guitars also look okay.

Here are the weak points. The neck is "clubby." The guitar is all laminate construction of some hardwood I have not identified (may be Ash, may be a Chinese hardwood I know nothing about). And this brings us to the sound. It is not the best. It sounds better picked fingerstyle (which I teach) than strummed with a pick. The one I have kept I have strung in "Nashville" tuning, and it is fun to hammer around on strung up that way.

Someone could actually learn to play on at least four out of five of these.
